What is a High Support Program?
A High Support Program is a pathway for students who have been identified with a Developmental Disability. The goal is to work with students on a functional curriculum that will allow for increased confidence and independence to complete daily living skills with success. Working with both the parents/guardians and students we are able to set goals and individualize programming to suit the needs of the students. As the program name suggests, the goal is prepare students for the next STEP and transition confidently to the work world.
In the High Support Program, we work closely with community agencies that offer our students support services. Through this connection, we are able to offer students the option to complete placements in a variety of work settings with the supervision and support of a worker that will allow for students to build confidence in their abilities.
Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of programming within the classroom but also in the community. Students go swimming, bowling, grocery shopping, access the library, and other community services in order to build positive connections and build comfort in accessing these resources.
